NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Police raided the business of North Miami Mayor Lucie Tondreau Friday morning as part of an investigation into absentee ballot fraud.
Investigators from Miami-Dade police, Miami Beach police, and the state attorney’s office took computers and boxes of documents from Tondreau & Associates, a private-consulting firm, at 12895 W. Dixie Highway
“Today’s action was based on leads supplied to the State Attorney’s Election Fraud Task Force,” said state attorney spokesman Ed Griffith.
According to the search warrant, investigators sought electronic evidence that the Tondreau campaign made dozens of fraudulent absentee ballot requests for voters. The warrant named 60 voters.
The warrant also allowed investigators to get certain documents related to her campaign treasurer, Nacivre Charles, who was arrested Friday on charges of driving with a suspended license. Tondreau defeated former mayor Kevin Burns in a runoff election.
“We’re confident there is no evidence of any wrongdoing,” said Ben Kuehne, Tondreau’s attorney.
Kuehne asked for an emergency hearing and requested that prosecutors separate any private business records they might find.
“She wants to cooperate with this investigation fully so it’s resolved quickly,” said Kuehne.
